HAMILTON, MA — North Shore runners and walkers are invited to Vineyard Hill Reservation on Aug. 22 for Essex County Greenbelt's annual Vineyard Hill Trail Run 5K/10K, an event that supports the conservation group's work across Essex County.
The race starts at 9 a.m. at Vineyard Hill Reservation on Asbury Street in South Hamilton. Proceeds from the run support Greenbelt's land conservation and stewardship efforts across Essex County.
Participants will have a choice of 5K and 10K race options. The course is a scenic trail route that passes through conservation land and includes the slopes of Vineyard Hill, sections of Bradley Palmer State Park, the Bay Circuit Trail and Greenbelt's Shaw Field.
The event is open to runners of all levels. It is part of the North Shore Trail Series, which includes eight trail races across the region, and is sponsored by New England Running Co. The event is also Trail Sisters-approved, according to the announcement, reflecting Greenbelt's support for an inclusive trail running community.
Registration costs $35 for Greenbelt members and $40 for non-members. The fee includes a high-visibility pink race T-shirt while supplies last, according to the event listing. Race day registration will be available the day of the event from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
The event often reaches capacity, and encourages people to register early. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers overall and in age categories.
Before race day, runners can get an early look at the course during a free preview run on Aug. 8 at 9 a.m. The preview event will be hosted by Salem’s Wicked Running Club.
New England Running Co. will also be on site for the preview run with Brooks running shoes available for demo, along with other gear and swag, according to the announcement. Organizers said the preview run is open to all.
Registration for both the trail run and the preview run is available here.
The event combines a competitive race with fundraising for conservation work in communities across Essex County.
