Rabbit, Rabbit—Redux! A Celebration of Rabbits and Hares in Art

Event Details

True North Gallery, 25 Woodbury St, Hamilton, MA, 01982

From April 1, 2026 to June 6, 2026, True North Gallery presents "Rabbit, Rabbit—Redux! A Celebration of Rabbits and Hares in Art. The show includes work by Juliana Boyd, Seth Fitts, Amy Keller, Kristiana Pärn, Rebecca Perdue, Ruth Viqueira and Sarah Peel, Lee Thomson, Nicholas Wilson, Kim Zimmerman, and others.

The show takes its name from the folk belief that saying “rabbit, rabbit” immediately upon waking on the first day of a month will bring you luck for the next thirty days, provided that the words are spoken aloud and before anything else is said.

Why rabbits (and hares)? Rabbits play important roles in the mythology of nearly every culture, often as symbols of regeneration and ingenuity. They are associated with magic because we see them mostly at dawn and dusk—those border times when our eyes can play tricks on us. And, in many cultures, rabbits are considered trickster figures because people perceive them as paradoxical creatures—courageous, yet timid; clever, yet foolish; and innocent, yet prolific. Whenever they appear as culture heroes, these gentle and largely defenseless creatures usually outwit bigger, stronger opponents by breaking rules, defying authority, and inspiring others to think outside of established norms.
