Details About the Two-Town Block Party and Fireworks

This year's celebration combines the Fourth of July fireworks with the community block party.

The Community House, the Hamilton-Wenham Joint Recreation Department and the Town of Hamilton have joined forces this year to create a blowout block party and Fourth of July celebration.

This marks the seventh year for the community block party and organizers were looking to do something a bit different, so they merged the traditional Two-Town Fourth of July with the Community Block Party and will hold a massive party on Saturday, June 27 at Patton Park in Hamilton.

“We are very excited about the changes we have made to The Community Block Party – we have merged this event with our traditional Two Town Fourth of July to create a bigger and better community wide patriotic celebration open to all,” said Community House Executive Director Melissa Elmer in a press release.

Admission to the festivities is free and the Town of Hamilton will host fireworks for the event.

The party begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 with a bike parade from First United Methodist Church to Patton Park and a covered wagon contest sponsored by the Wenham Museum. The contest is pays tribute to the local history of the first covered wagon from Massachusetts set forth from Hamilton on Dec. 3, 1797.

Community sponsors from the two towns will provide entertainment for kids in the form of bouncy houses, cow pie bingo, a dunk tank, bike rodeo, giant games, patriotic crafts and more.

DJ HMS Entertainment will provide music and personality beginning at 5 p,m. Bookman and the Faucets, featuring Class of 2015 Hamilton-Wenham graduates Sam Ehrard, Nate Shepard and Jonathan Kirschner as well as upcoming seniors Alex MacLean and Will Schmidt will perform at 6 p.m. Then, Jim Coyle and Americana Swing Band will be back this year beginning at 7 p.m.

“I think it is going to be a fantastic event and am thrilled to have so many local civic organizations participating,” said event planner Tess Leary. “It truly is a Community Block Party and I hope everyone comes out to help us celebrate and enjoy the fun!”

The rain date for the event is Sunday, June 28.
