seNSORY SKATE FEST for kids with ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, and other learning and behavioral disorders
The Brain Balance Achievement Center, Eastern Boarder and Greater Beverly YMCA present the 1st Annual Sensory Skate Fest. The program is an enrichment opportunity for children with ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Dyslexia and other learning and behavioral disorders. The program will focus on skateboarding lessons that are designed to help children develop a greater awareness of their bodies and how they functioning while stimulating gross motor function, a key aspect of remediation of these disorders. Skateboarding can be a useful tool in helping to develop weak areas of the brain and foster greater balance and success.
The event begins at 9:00 a.m. with safety tips for the kids and a helmet inspection. At 9:05 a.m. Steve Bromberg, resident Chiropractic Neurologist at the Brain Balance Achievement Center, will give a brief discussion of the benefits of the activities for kids with these disorders. Skateboarding lessons will then begin at 9:15 a.m., where kids will have a chance to work in small groups to learn the basics, and then a chance to try out their moves independently.
Staff from the Brain Balance Achievement Center will be on hand to speak to parents throughout the program about the benefits of this type of activity for brain development and learning/developmental disorder remediation.
