Five Things to Know on May 3: Turning a "Pitiful Sight' Into an "Award-Winning Dreamscape'

Today is Friday, May 3. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:
1. Clouds: TV meteorologists have been talking about it all week – Friday is the day that will break out streak of spectacular days. The sky is expected to have more clouds than we have seen in a while, with temperatures in the 50s..
2. Happy Clams: The road race with the silly name takes place over in Essex on Friday. Maybe you’ve seen the signs in the yards of some local homes in recent days – it is the “Happy as a Clam 5K.” The race starts at 6 p.m. at the Essex Elementary School at 12 Story St. There’s also a one mile fun run at 5:30 p.m.

3. Pingree: Pingree School is hosting an online auction than includes about 75 items that range from gift certificates to local restaurants to a four day stay at a Wyoming ranch.
4. My Garden: It’s the time of year when you are working hard to get your lawn and garden ready or the summer. Well, Norman ‘Dugie’ Russell has a story for you on Friday morning. The presentation, which runs from 10:15 a.m. to noon at Hamilton-Wenham Library, will show you how Russell’s garden and surrounding grounds, which were once a pitiful sight with hardly a blade of grass and no flowers were transformed into “an award winning dreamscape.”

5. Pirie Property: The Pirie Property Review Committee meets on Friday morning in the public meeting room at the Public Safety Building at 7:30 a.m. The committee is slated to discuss the options for possible use of the property if the town purchases it and will work on preparing for a public hearing on May 16 about the town’s first right of refusal.
