Hamilton Native Leads NCAA in Assists

A Division 1 college basketball player who started playing high school basketball at the Regional has more assists per game than any other player in the country.

A Hamilton native who started his high school basketball career at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School is now leading NCAA Div. 1 basketball in assists.

Michael Carter-Williams in tops with 83 total assists and an average of 10.4 assists per game, according to CBS Sports.

Carter-Williams, a sophomore guard, is a starter this year, getting a huge jump in playing time over last year when he came to play in Boston during the Sweet 16 ound of the tournament but stayed on the bench.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim told CBS sports that Carter-Williams is playing as well “as any point guard we've had in a long time.”

Carter-Williams played high school hoops at the Regional before transferring to St. Andrews in Rhode Island, where he was named a McDonald's All-American and Gatorade Player of the Year for Rhode Island.
