Hamilton Resident Proposes Mixed-Use Development for Downtown Peabody

Special permit sought for six residential units and a bakery at 98 Main Street in Peabody.

A new bakery and coffee shop could be coming to Main Street in Peabody, thanks to a Hamilton resident.

Adriano Taugino of Hamilton has a purchase and sale agreement for 98 Main Street, the former home of the North Shore Community Action Program. Last year, NSCAP moved to new digs at 119 Rear Foster Street.

The agreement for the sale depends on Taugino obtaining the necessary permits to turn the former office space into six residential units on the second and third floors.

An owner operated bakery and coffee shop is planned for the first floor.

The project will need a special permit from the City Council for the residential units.

The project will require 14 off-site parking spaces for the residential units, and Taugino is proposing 17.

In addition to the special permit from the council, the development will also require a site plan review from the Planning Board.

No date has been set at this time for the special permit or the Planning Board hearings.

NSCAP had occupied the building as office space from 1980 until last year.
