Endangered 4-Month-Old Recovered By State Police

Police were looking for the child and his 15-year-old mother, last seen in Newburyport.

Update: Police said at 2:08 p.m. Tuesday the boy has been found.

NEWBURYPORT, MA — A family member has turned over the 4-month-old police have been looking for since Monday morning. State Police made the announcement Tuesday afternoon, just minutes after saying they recovered the vehicle suspected to have been involved, but that the child was still being searched for.

Police are still searching for the boy's 15-year-old mother, who is not believe to be in danger.

Police late Monday night issued an alert for Jacob Van Voorhis . The boy was taken by mother Shantel from DARE Family services in Newburyport, where they both were living.

Police on Tuesday afternoon said recovered the Honda CRV they were searching for at a Springfield address associated with Shantel's family.

Shantel is described as 5 feet 9 inches and about 180 pounds. She is biracial - Hispanic and white - with long, curly brown hair and hazel eyes.

Shantel took Jacob at about 2:25 a.m., police said. She did not take his antibiotic for an ear infection, and he is on special soy formula. It is unknown if he is in a baby seat, and Shantel left his diaper bag behind.

Jacob is in legal custody of the Department of Children and Families. Shantel was allowed to stay with him while at the DARE facility.

Shantle has ties to Holyoke and Springfield. She may be with Jonathan Heredia.
