Pro Player Returns Home to Share Skills With Middle Schoolers

Michael Carter-Williams, who was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers this summer, returned home to Hamilton on Thursday to teach basketball skills to some local middle school players.

What a thrill it was Thursday for some local 12-year-old basketball players. Future NBA point guard Michael Carter-Williams returned to his hometown to conduct a small clinic on a court next to Winthrop Elementary School in Hamilton.

Carter-Williams, who played his freshman year at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School before transferring to St. Drew’s School in Rhode Island, was drafted No. 11 in June’s NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He left Syracuse University after his break-out sophomore year to enter the draft.

The kids taking part in the session were “schooled on fundamentals for over an hour,” according to an account of the visit by the Salem News. The  sixth and seventh grade Generals players each went one-on-one with Carter-Williams before taking pictures with him and getting his autograph, according to Jenn Flynn, whose son Tom took part.
