Sign Up Now for Hamilton's Third Citizens' Fire Academy

The course begins April 2.

Ever wondered what your fire department does between calls to fight fires?

Then the Hamilton Citizens’ Fire Academy is for you.

Beginning, Thursday, April 2, course participants will gather weekly for nine weeks from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. and learn from members of the Hamilton Fire Department, Police Department and dispatch center what actually goes on beyond the fire engine sirens. The course concludes Thursday, May 28.

“Classes will cover various topics such as a history and overview of the department, fire safety, protective clothing, portable fire extinguishers, fire apparatus and equipment, auto extrication, special operations, and more,” reads the announcement on the Town of Hamilton website.

In addition, participants will take a trip to the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy on a Saturday and a trip to one of the fire towers in Bradley Palmer State Park.

The course is free and open to participants 18 and up. Applications for the course must be submitted by Monday, March 16 and can be picked up from the fire department or town clerk’s office, requested from Fire Chief Philip Stevens at 978-468-5560, or downloaded.

Preference will be given to Hamilton residents.
