The Waring School of Beverly, MA raised $92,450 toward the renovation of a 1,250 square foot workroom into a new Makerspace.
On Saturday, April 29, The Waring School of Beverly, MA raised $92,450 toward the renovation of a 1,250 square foot workroom into a new Makerspace. The money was raised during the school’s auction’s "paddle raise" and includes over 60 donations (two as high as $10K), with an anonymous donor matching $20K toward the cause.
The large space, located centrally in Waring School’s Forum building, will be transformed into a creative place where students can design, build and learn. This space is an ideal spot for easy and frequent access by all students, particularly during Waring’s focus-flex periods. Some possible uses of the new space include academic classes of all kinds, robotics, hands-on projects, and student initiated activities. The school plans to build a space in which individuals and groups can use low and high-tech tools to build and create. Waring Physics teacher, Francis Schaeffer, is heading up the design and implementation of the space, working closely with Plant Manager, Dianne Jirka, and architects Siemasko & Verbridge of Beverly, MA.
The Makerspace Waring School envisions will support the school's strategic goal of integrating and enhancing hands-on learning across disciplines, particularly in science, technology, engineering and math, with possibilities of all kinds.
