WENHAM — With the start of the school year quickly approaching, the Wenham Police and Fire Departments would like to offer students, parents and motorists several important safety tips ahead of students returning to school.
Students in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District begin returning for orientations and the first day of school on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, respectively. Motorists should expect increased traffic volume around all district schools next week as students are dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon.

Wenham Police and Fire would like to share the following tips that should help facilitate a safe start to the school year, from the National Safety Council (NSC).
It is important that motorists be alert while driving, especially in school zones and residential neighborhoods. Children can be unpredictable and may ignore hazards and take risks. The NSC provides the following tips for motorists:
Motorists are also reminded that the Massachusetts Hands-Free Law requires drivers to stay off of all electronic devices while driving.
