Whitman-Hanson Girl Scout Troop 82684 Packs Thousands of Meals for Local Food Pantries

HANSON, MA — Whitman-Hanson Girl Scout Troop 82684 rolled up their sleeves on December 6th to help support families in need across the region. The troop spent the morning at End Hunger New England in Pembroke, where they joined other volunteers to pack thousands of meals for distribution to local food pantries. Working assembly-line style, the Scouts measured, scooped, sealed, and boxed meal kits designed to provide nutritious, shelf-stable options for food-insecure households.

The event gave the girls a firsthand look at how community action can make a tangible impact—especially during the holiday season, when demand at food pantries typically spikes. Troop leaders said the service project was chosen to teach the Scouts about compassion, teamwork, and the importance of giving back. For some of the girls, it was their first time participating in a large-scale hunger-relief effort.

End Hunger New England organizes meal-packaging events year-round, relying on volunteers to assemble the food kits that are then distributed through partner food pantries and community programs.

Troop 82684 plans to continue its community service efforts throughout the year, with more projects already on the horizon.
