WHITMAN — Local Girl Scouts from Whitman-Hanson are helping ensure that every child has the opportunity to celebrate their special day, regardless of financial circumstances.

As part of a community service project focused on kindness and giving back, the girls assembled and donated "Birthday Bags" to the Whitman and Hanson food pantries. The bags are designed to provide families in need with everything necessary for a complete birthday celebration.

Each Birthday Bag includes cake mix, frosting, candles, decorations, and other party essentials. To add a personal touch, the Girl Scouts also created handmade birthday cards filled with encouraging messages and well wishes.

In addition, the girls printed and included simple recipes showing families how to make a delicious cake using cake mix and soda, an easy and affordable baking option that requires only a few ingredients.

The project was inspired by the belief that every child and adult deserves to feel celebrated on their birthday. While food pantries help meet essential needs, the Girl Scouts recognized that special occasions can sometimes be overlooked when families are struggling financially.

By providing these Birthday Bags, the scouts hope to bring smiles, create lasting memories, and remind local families that their community cares about them.

Representatives from both the Whitman and Hanson food pantries expressed gratitude for the thoughtful donation, noting that the Birthday Bags will offer more than just supplies—they will provide moments of happiness and normalcy for children and families during challenging times.

The Girl Scouts' efforts demonstrate the values of service, compassion, and community involvement that are central to scouting. Through projects like this, they continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of their neighbors while learning the importance of helping others.

The Birthday Bags are now available through the Whitman and Hanson food pantries for families who could benefit from a little extra celebration on a special day.
