"We are STILL Here": Domestic Violence Survivor And Advocate Marks 20 Years of Healing With Spirit in Hingham During Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Open house anniversary celebration doubles as visibility platform for survivor-led litigation reform work, timed to Domestic Violence Awareness Month
HINGHAM, Mass. — Healing With Spirit, the Hingham wellness practice founded by Laura Bonetzky-Gaffney, celebrates its 20th anniversary with a community open house on Tuesday, October 15 at 185 Lincoln St, Suite 300, Hingham, MA from 5-8pm
Bonetzky-Gaffney, a Hingham native, is a domestic violence survivor and advocate who left her abusive relationship in 2005, but says was not fully free from the abuse that was carried forward through litigation abuse, coercive control, and post-separation abuse in family court until October 2024.
"The celebration is one thing," said Bonetzky-Gaffney. "We are still here. Despite ongoing family court sanctioned abuse, despite unlawful incarceration denying my right to a lawyer, despite COVID, despite every obstacle in between - we are still here."
Bonetzky-Gaffney is a member of the TRAC Coalition and was part of the coalition that helped pass Massachusetts' 2024 coercive control law. Her story was the featured survivor story during the celebration in September 2024. She is currently supporting the reintroduction of a litigation abuse bill addressing the use of family court proceedings as a continued tool of control after separation.
Beyond her advocacy work, Bonetzky-Gaffney is multi-generational multi-disciplinary healer, an Approved Jikiden Reiki Teacher through the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai in Kyoto, Japan, an ordained minister centered around end of life care, and the author of Secrets to Healing. She hosts the podcast Triggers and Spiritual Medicine and leads small-group pilgrimages to Ireland focused on ancestral healing and reclamation.
The evening's program includes a welcome from Bonetzky-Gaffney, a group gong bath, and remarks from clients, friends, and collaborators with surprise guests to be confirmed. Shaquera Robinson, a former TRAC member and survivor of domestic violence, will speak on behalf of Shaquera's Story Advocacy and Coaching (based in Dorchester/Roxbury), the beneficiary of the evening's 50/50 raffle fundraiser. Bonetzky-Gaffney will close the evening reading her poem My Life as an Oak Tree.
