Bites Nearby: Typhoon Asian Bistro
Bites Nearby is a weekly column by Patch's resident foodie, Christine Cassis, investigating the best dishes in and around Hingham, Mass.
If you’re looking for something a little bit more exotic with which to tantalize your taste buds, but don’t want to leave the south shore for some downtown dining, fear not. Typhoon Asian Bistro, a Boston-based Asian fusion restaurant, has just opened a location in the Hingham Shipyard.
Now, this isn’t your usual Americanized Chinese take out with greasy noodles, pork fried rice and chicken wings. Typhoon is fresh and relatively healthy (depending on what you order, really) and not made in mass qualities left to sit in grease. But more importantly, if you’re concerned that Typhoon won’t have a dish for you, don’t worry, because this bistro boasts plenty of vegetarian options, but also entirely separate vegan and gluten-free menus.
Some recommended dishes? The orange tofu with rice and broccoli is a fan favorite for vegetarians. Simple rolls among sushi lovers, like spicy tuna, are not only delicious, but aesthetically pleasing in their elaborate decoration and display. But if a few rolls aren’t enough to stuff your stomach, their fried rice dishes, all $12 and under, are more of an entrée than a side, and perfect for a meal or sharing while dining on a few pieces of maki, nigri or sashimi.

The menu is expansive and sometimes expensive, but per usual, my recommendation is to bring friends and share.
Open for both lunch and dinner, serving everything from noodles, rice and sushi, Typhoon has an open kitchen, plenty of televisions and a great atmosphere perfect for a fun Saturday night with friends or a quiet weekday luncheon. They also offer to go, so if you’re craving Asian but would prefer to enjoy your own backyard, swing by and stock up.
