Brockton Man Carjacks Elderly Woman in Hingham, Gets Prison Time
Jerry Anitus will spend time in a state prison for carjacking an elderly woman in Hingham.

A Brockton man who was convicted of carjacking an elderly woman in Hingham will spend time in a state prison.
Jerry Anitus, 22, was convicted of carjacking and assault and battery on an elderly victim causing injury, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office. The conviction came after a three-day jury trial in Brockton Superior Court.
“Mr. Anitus committed a violent act against one of society’s most defenseless and vulnerable victims,” District Attorney Timothy Cruz said in a statement. “The jury got it right with today’s verdict and Mr. Anitus will now be held responsible for his actions that day.”

Anita was sentenced Wednesday to 5 to 5 ½ years in a state prison, to be followed by two years of probation. The state had requested a sentence of 10-15 years in a state prison.
In 2013, Anitus jumped over two fences to enter the Linden Ponds assisted living community in Hingham. There, Anitus entered the 85-year-old female victim’s Town Car, forcibly took her keys and then threw her out of the car onto the asphalt ground below. At the time of the carjacking, Anitus was alleged to be fleeing an armed masked robbery that he and another man had just committed over the town line in Weymouth.
