Cpl. Christopher Orlando Memorial Service: What You Need to Know

There will be a service and road closures as Hingham remembers a fallen hero.

HINGHAM, MA - Friday, Hingham will remember a local marine who lost his life in a terrible accident.

In January, Cpl. Christopher Orlando and 11 other Marines were on two helicopters that collided off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii. All 12 Marines were declared dead.

On April 29, a memorial service will be held for Orlando. Here is what you need to know about the day:

The Location

The service will be held at St. Paul’s Parish in Hingham at 11 a.m. Afterwards, members of the Marine Corps will present military honors to Corporal Orlando’s parents and other family members on the front steps of the church.

Road Closures

From the Hingham Police Department:

North Street will be closed to westbound traffic from the intersection with Route 3A to the east of Saint Paul’s Parish, to the intersection with Lincoln Lane to the west. Eastbound traffic from South Street merging onto North Street in Hingham Square, heading east to 3A, will be uninterrupted.

Heading south from the church, Main and Central Streets will be closed where they intersect with South Street. Coming toward the church from the north, Lincoln Street will be closed at the intersection with Lincoln Lane, and Fearing Road will be closed at the intersection with Cottage Street.

Additional temporary traffic restrictions may be imposed if determined to be necessary.

Flags at Half-Staff

Governor Baker has ordered the U.S. and Commonwealth flags to half-staff from sunrise to sunset to show support and respect for Orlando.

Closed Town Offies

Due to the memorial service, all town offices except for the Town Clerk and Treasure's offices will be closed. The Recreation Department will be closed between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
