Donations Sought For Corporal Orlando Scholarship Fund In Hingham
Donations are sought for a $2,500 scholarship in memory of Corporal Christopher J. Orlando, who was killed in a 2016 helicopter crash.

HINGHAM, MA — The Hingham Department of Veterans’ Services is looking for donations to The Corporal Christopher J. Orlando USMC Memorial Scholar Fund in memory of the 2010 Hingham High graduate killed in a military helicopter crash. The fund was started three years ago after Orlando was killed, along with 11 others, in a mid-air helicopter crash in the Hawaiian Islands.
"At this time of year we are reminded of the bravery of all of our men and young women who Stand-In-Watch guarding the gates of freedom," the Veterans' Services Department said. "So to honor this son of Hingham, a memorial scholarship was established."
The $2,500 scholarship is awarded annually to the Hingham High who plans to pursue a career in the military, police, fire or vocational skills. The Hingham Treasurer's Office maintains the scholarship fund. Since there is no overhead involved in the administration of the fund, all 100 percent of tax-deductible donations go toward the scholarship fund.
