Dorchester Man Tried To Reach For Gun During Stop: Police

Dominic Duret of Dorchester now faces an attempted murder charge.

HULL, MA — A Dorchester man was caught throwing drugs out of his car and tried to reach for his gun during a traffic stop, police said.

Dominic Duret, 26, of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with attempting to commit a crime (murder), cocaine trafficking, carrying a firearm without a license, improper storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm involved in a felony with a defaced number, possession of ammunition, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property over $250, according to the Hull Police Department.

On Sunday at about 11:40 p.m., Hull police conducted a traffic stop after observing an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed on Samoset Avenue.While running the driver's license and registration, the driver, identified as Duret, began to allegedly throw drugs and drug paraphernalia out of the passenger side window. Duret was then placed under arrest.

While recovering the items thrown from the cars, the officer noticed Duret edging towards his vehicle and reaching for .22 caliber handgun.

Police say they located multiple packages containing a white substance inside the vehicle, which was later determined to be cocaine.

Duret was booked at the Hull Police Department and held on $20,000 cash bail pending his arraignment at Hingham District Court.
