Driver Crosses Into Oncoming Traffic, Strikes Hydrant In Hingham
Hingham police said a driver was cited for not staying in mark lanes following the afternoon crash on Route 228.
HINGHAM, MA — Hingham police said a crash on Route 228 that involved an SUV, fire hydrant and utility pole Monday afternoon could have been much worse. Police said at about 3 p.m. on Monday the SUV crossed lanes into oncoming traffic and struck the hydrant and pole.
Police said there were no injuries due to the use of seat belts.
"At this busy time of day, fortunate that this was not a head-on collision," Hingham police posted with photos of the crash on their Facebook page.

Police said the SUV crossed into the oncoming lane, struck the hydrant, rolled onto its side and slid into the utility pole. Police said the driver was not impaired by alcohol or drugs, but was cited for not staying in marked lanes.
