Driver in Restaurant Crash Charged with Drug Possession
Police say Jeffrey Mahoney drove into the Square Cafe.

HINGHAM, MA – Three people were injured Friday night when a truck drove into the front of a Hingham restaurant. The truck’s driver was arrested at the scene.
On Friday, August 26, 2016 at 9:59pm Officers responded to reports that a truck drove into the front of The Square Café at 150 North Street. The truck, a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, had been traveling east on North St. into Hingham Square, drove over the sidewalk, and into the front window of the restaurant.

Two patrons inside, a 59 year old Hingham man and 52 year old Hull woman, suffered serious injuries. The passenger in the truck, a 24 year old Quincy woman, suffered minor injuries. All three were transported by Hingham and Hull Fire Department ambulances to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. The driver was not injured. He was not impaired.
Arrested was Jeffrey Mahoney, age 29, of 440 South Street, Quincy, MA. He was charged with: 1) Operating to Endanger 2) Possession of a Class B Substance (Suboxone) 3) Marked Lanes Violation. He was released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned August 29, at Hingham District Court.

Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The Hingham Building Inspector responded to the scene to assess the stability of the building. The crash remains under investigation.
