Drugged Driver Injures Driver In Hingham Crash: Police

Dennis Ellsey, of Hull, told Hingham officers he smoked crack for four days without sleep before injuring a driver in a crash, police said.

HINGHAM, MA — A Hull man was arrested last week after police said he injured another driver in a crash while under the influence of crack cocaine. Dennis Ellsey, 58, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, possession of a class B substance and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Police said Ellsey tried to hide his crack by throwing it under his truck.

Around 2:25 p.m. Sept. 3, police were called to the intersection of George Washington Boulevard and Rockland Street for a report of a two-car crash. Police said Ellsey, driving a Dodge Dakota, ran a red light and struck the driver's side of a Toyota Rav4.

Ellsey and the other driver were take to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said Ellsey was acting erratic and was pacing back in forth. He admitted to officers he had been smoking crack for the last four days and hadn't slept, police said. Ellsey also told officers he threw a bag of crack cocaine under his truck after the crash, according to police.

Ellsey was arraigned in Hingham District Court Sept 4.
