Fourth of July Parade, A Strong Tradition in Hingham

The parade will head down Main Street Monday from 10-11 a.m.

Hingham will celebrate its annual Fourth of July Parade on Monday.

This year’s celebration will start at 10 a.m. at the Hingham High School at Pleasant Street and end at Station Street around 11:00 a.m.

According to  Fourth of July Parade Committee Chairman Mary Ann Blackmur the parade will include a marching band, Wally the Green Monster, various sports teams  including the   Also in the parade will be the boys and girls scouts, members of the Bare Cove Fire Museum, and antique cars.

“It’s a strong tradition in Hingham,” Blackmur said.  “It’s a little spice of Americana.  It’s a true intergenerational community event that is enjoyed by generations of family.”

Like last year, a portion of the parade route will be painted in red, white, and blue.

Blackmur said she expects between 15,000-20,000 people to come to the 2011 parade.

“We are vey grateful the community always comes together each year,” Blackmur said. 

The event is funded by donations from the community and Blackmur said it’s not too late to make a donation to help fund the parade. Checks should be made payable to the Hingham 4th of July Parade Fund and mailed to: Hingham 4th of July Parade Committee, 210 Central St., Hingham, MA  02043.
