Hearing To Be Held Over Proposed Hingham Water Rate Hike

The hearing is scheduled for next month at Hull High School.

HINGHAM, MA — A public hearing will be held regarding a proposed 14.2 percent increase to the water rate.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities will hold the hearing July 13 at 7 p.m. at Hull High School. Written comments may be submitted to Mark D. Marini, Secretary, Dept. of Public Utilities. One South Station, 5th floor, Boston, MA 02110.

The hearing comes following an announcement from Aquarion Water Company’s announcement that they will adjust their rates. The Town of Hingham intends on challenging the increase.

Mary Power, the chairperson of the Hingham selectmen, told the Hingham Journal that the legal costs will likely pay for themselves in the form of a reduced rate increase.

Aquarion officials say the hike is due to $12 million in infrastructure improvements.
