Police responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment on HMS Fitzroy Dr. at 7 a.m. They found a man barricaded inside with two other people. One person was able to escape, and the other was removed by police.

The man shot several times at an armored SWAT truck. No one was hit, police said.

Negotiators spent over three hours talking the suspect out of the home once he was alone. The management company sent a notice to residents warning them about the active investigation and urging them to stay inside.

Residents in the immediate area were evacuated. Residents inside the building told reporters they were instructed to go to the complex clubhouse while police investigate.

Residents received a robocall that morning telling them to stay inside and away from the windows. Several streets were listed in the call including Whitaker Lane, Amesbury Drive, Fogg Way, Bickerton Way, Shipyard Drive and USS Stayner Drive.

Hingham Police Officer Steven Dearth said the fact that the area is congested with residential units meant hundreds of people were affected by the evacuation and shelter-in-place. Residents were allowed to re-enter their homes by 1 p.m.
