Hingham Girl Scouts Town-Wide Encampment

On May 1, 2015, 50 Girl Scouts and 26 adults headed to Camp Wind-in-the-Pines in Plymouth to attend the “Girl Scouts Together 2015 Town-Wide Encampment.” Organized by Hingham Troop Leaders, an Encampment is when multiple troops from a single town camp together for a weekend. Campers kicked off Friday evening with traditional songs and s’mores around a campfire. Ranging in age from 2nd grade Brownie Scouts to High School Senior Scouts, the girls planned and prepared all of their own meals. While one troop stayed in the Balfour Lodge, the others bedded down in platform tents and weathered 35 -degree overnight temperatures! Another 16 Kindergarten and 1st grade Daisy scouts joined in for Saturday’s adventure activities. Throughout the day Saturday, scouts rotated through adventure stations, which included rock climbing, team building games, trail marking and crafts. Older scouts acted as mentors and taught campfire safety and fire-building skills to younger scouts, while others High Schoolers ran the Daisy Scout program. Saturday evening wrapped up with another evening campfire.
