Hingham Library Celebrates 140 Years
The birthday celebration is open to the public and will include prizes, free books, and entertaining history about the library's 100 plus years in Hingham.
The Hingham Public Library will hold a 140th anniversary celebration next weekend with prizes, free books, and refreshments
The day celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 29.
At 10:30 a.m., a panel will provide an entertaining history of the Library. Panelists include David Mehegan, President of the Library's Board of Trustees, Walter Dzuira, retired Hingham Public Library Director, and Trustee Tom Carey.

At 2:00 p.m., Tim Spalding, founder and President of LibraryThing, will give a talk on "The Future of Libraries," followed by a question and answer period and discussion of the challenges currently facing the Hingham Public Library.
As part of their birthday celebration, the Library will hold a fundraiser on Friday evening from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. allowing residents to partake in a scavenger hunt an see the library in a whole new way.

The Roam the Tomes event will also include an auction, cash bar, food and refreshments and a VIP reception with Pulitzer Prize winning Boston Globe Film Critic, Wesley Morris.
As another way to raise money for library books, media, and materials, the HPL is now selling special edition Gold Library Cards. The special cards are available to anyone who donates $20, up until the Rome the Tomes event. The card allows citizens to borrow books, CDs, DVDs and more.
