Hingham Native Susan Freeman Gives Keynote Speech at FYEE Conference

Susan Freeman is the Director & Teaching Professor at Northeastern University's First Year Engineering Program

Susan Freeman, Director & Teaching Professor at Northeastern University’s First Year Engineering Program delivered the Keynote Speech at the 8th Annual First Year Engineering Experience (FYEE) Conference in Columbus, OH.

The conference, held July 31 – August 2 at The Ohio State University, is an opportunity for academic and industry representatives to discuss and share relevant topics in the first year engineering experience. Participants include college deans, department chairs, student service professionals, advisors, faculty in engineering and engineering technology, K-12 teachers, and industry leaders from throughout the country.

Dr. Freeman’s talk, titled “Leveraging our Resources to bring Continuous Improvement in First-year Engineering Programs” discussed how educators can use systems thinking and critical thinking skills to transform classes and programs in first-year engineering.

A Hingham native, Freeman received her bachelor’s, master’s degrees and PhD in Industrial Engineering from Northeastern University. After working as a senior industrial engineer in manufacturing and production planning, Ms. Freeman returned to teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses at Northeastern. She is one of the original full-time first-year instructors in the College of Engineering teaching freshmen engineering courses, along with IE course. In addition to teaching, Ms. Freeman is involved in coordinating freshman engineering courses and developing curriculum to meet the student and program’s needs.
