Hingham Reopens Unwanted Medication Dropoff Box
For the first time in three months, residents are safely able to dispose of expired or no longer needed pills and medications.
HINGHAM, MA — Hingham has reopened its unwanted medicine collection box in the lobby of the Hingham Police Department for the first time since it was closed at the beginning of the coronavirus health crisis in March.
The box is open for the drop off of unwanted pills and expired medications. Residents are asked to dispose of them safely to keep them out of the hands of those not authorized to take them, as well as the waterways that become contaminated when medications are flushed down the drain.
Sharp objects, such as needles, are not accepted in the drop box for safety reasons. Those can be dropped off at the marked sharps container in the recycling center at the Hingham Transfer Station. Liquid medications, weapons and ammunition are also not accepted in the drop-off box.
