Hingham Spent $40,000 Trying to Find Anonymous Letter Author

A town employee recently admitted to mailing a letter to the selectmen criticizing two candidates for police chief.

A Hingham Departments of Public Works employee has admitted to writing anonymous letter mailed to the three members of the Board of Selectmen

Matt Hersey said he came forward because the town’s $40,000 investigation was going to nail the wrong person according to Commonwealth Magazine. In the letter, Hersey provided the selectmen with more information on two out of the four candidates that he felt they should have. Then-deputy police chief Glenn Olsson was later named the head of the police department.

Hingham Town Administrator Ted Alexiades said the report will likely be discussed at a future selectmen meeting.
