Dharma Dreams Vocational Center

Dharma Dreams Vocational Center is a nonprofit vocational and life skills program based in Hanover, Massachusetts, serving young adults ages 18–26 with moderate cognitive disabilities. Our mission is to help students build practical job skills in the trades, confidence, independence, emotional regulation, and workplace readiness through hands-on vocational training and supportive learning experiences. The program was created in response to the growing need for meaningful transition opportunities for young adults as they move beyond high school and into adulthood. Many families struggle to find programs that combine practical workforce preparation, life skills development, communication skills, confidence-building, and supportive real-world learning experiences. Dharma Dreams offers hands-on exposure to vocational areas such as landscaping and grounds maintenance, painting and surface preparation, workplace professionalism, entrepreneurship basics, and life skills training. Students also learn mind-body techniques that support focus, confidence, emotional regulation, stress management, and workplace success. Our introductory summer program, launching at the end of July, is designed to help students and families become familiar with the program and explore vocational interests before participating in longer-term programming. Long-term programming focuses on helping students develop greater independence, workplace readiness, responsibility, confidence, and practical trade skills through structured, hands-on learning experiences. Dharma Dreams Vocational Center aims to create supportive pathways toward greater independence, meaningful employment opportunities, and a stronger sense of purpose while helping young adults feel valued, capable, and connected to their future potential.

The Creative Stitch will soon have a new owner and new name. Kristen Ross who has owned the South Street business for 13 years has sold her yarn shop to one of her employees, Deborah Connolly. Connolly, a Scituate resident, will take over on August 17.  She plans to change the store's name to "Yarns in the Square." Ross, who also lives in Scituate, said she is "moving on" and is looking forward to spending more time with her son.  The longtime Hingham business owner is now finishing her masters in social work and hopes to pursue a new career. "I love Hingham Square," she said.  "I like the traffic, the customer base and I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you to my customers." Creative Stitch is a yarn shop located at 28 South Street, that offers a wide variety of classes and workshops to cater to knitting and crocheting needs.
