Hingham Students to Have School on Good Friday
Hingham will have school on Good Friday and students at the Plymouth River School will have class on Saturday, March 28.

Hingham students will go to school on Good Friday in order to make up a day lost due to this winter’s major snowstorms.
The school committee voted on Monday night to hold school on Good Friday with a release time to be announced and to hold school at the Plymouth River School on Saturday, March 28. The Saturday session will not be a full day.
With the approval, the last day of school moves from June 24 for the school district and June 25 for the Plymouth River School to June 23 for all schools in Hingham.

Alec Porter, the president of the Hingham Education Association, said it was the preference of the teachers to hold classes on Good Friday. The second most popular option was holding classes up to June 30, followed by Saturday school and removing April vacation.
Due to the unpopularity of using the April break among the committee and the teachers, the option was taken off the table.

In addition to the scheduling of makeup days, the committee voted to request a waiver from the state for at least one day to avoid the 180-day requirement, with an emphasis on Jan. 27 due to the travel ban.
A second Saturday remains on the table for school. The date for the possible makeup classes is subject to a vote by the committee and support from the teacher’s union.
