Dharma Dreams Vocational Center

Dharma Dreams Vocational Center is a nonprofit vocational and life skills program based in Hanover, Massachusetts, serving young adults ages 18–26 with moderate cognitive disabilities. Our mission is to help students build practical job skills in the trades, confidence, independence, emotional regulation, and workplace readiness through hands-on vocational training and supportive learning experiences. The program was created in response to the growing need for meaningful transition opportunities for young adults as they move beyond high school and into adulthood. Many families struggle to find programs that combine practical workforce preparation, life skills development, communication skills, confidence-building, and supportive real-world learning experiences. Dharma Dreams offers hands-on exposure to vocational areas such as landscaping and grounds maintenance, painting and surface preparation, workplace professionalism, entrepreneurship basics, and life skills training. Students also learn mind-body techniques that support focus, confidence, emotional regulation, stress management, and workplace success. Our introductory summer program, launching at the end of July, is designed to help students and families become familiar with the program and explore vocational interests before participating in longer-term programming. Long-term programming focuses on helping students develop greater independence, workplace readiness, responsibility, confidence, and practical trade skills through structured, hands-on learning experiences. Dharma Dreams Vocational Center aims to create supportive pathways toward greater independence, meaningful employment opportunities, and a stronger sense of purpose while helping young adults feel valued, capable, and connected to their future potential.

The selectmen announced at a recent meeting that town administrator of 23 years will enter early retirement at the end of the year. Through an announcement read at the meeting, he said is leaving at 53 to take care of his 85-year-old father, who lives in California and has Alzheimer's disease. "I have come to a fork in the road. I can let others take care of my father in his final years or I can care for him myself," he said. He'll officially be retired as of Dec.31, 2017, but he'll likely be at town hall through September. Assistant Town Administrator Thomas Mayo will likely serve in an interim role during the search for a permanent replacement, <a href="http://hingham.wickedlocal.com/news/20170809/hingham-town-administrator-retiring-to-care-for-elderly-father" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">according to the Patriot Ledger.</a> Image: File Photo
