Hingham VFW Donates Grocery Gift Cards To Those In Need

HINGHAM, MA — The Hingham Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6053 donated more than $1,000 worth of gift cards to those struggling during the new coronavirus health emergency.

The donations are in the form of Stop & Shop grocery gift cards and will go to elderly, widowed and unemployed members of the community. Hingham Veterans Services will distribute the gift cards through mail.

"Veterans helping veterans and veterans' dependents through financially tough times shows their full measure of devotion," Hingham Veterans Services said on social media.

The donations are part of Post 6053's "Community Pride Initiative!"

On average, 22 veterans of Hingham live well below the federal poverty line, according to Hingham Veterans Services, and are provided financial and medical assistance through the town on a monthly basis.

"Any chance we, as fellow veterans, or citizens can offer additional assistance to those in need, it is always greatly appreciated," Hingham Veterans Services said.
