Burke’s intention was to create an updated and amusing visual to capture students’ attention. She wished to make them stop and think, 'that could happen to me if I am not aware of safety in science class.'

Burke told her friend, HHS junior Kenzi Blackham, who decided to help her. They painted together after school for about a week during freshman year.

While Burke does not consider herself an artist, she has been sketching for fashion class since she was a freshman, and understands body proportion.  She makes her own clothes and enjoys playing softball.

A native of Florida, the HHS junior plans to return to the Sunshine State after graduation, to join the Air Force or Navy, which will believes will give her a better opportunity to see the world.

“I like adventure, don’t like staying in one place at a time,” she said. Burke sees combining her love of traveling with dedicating her life to service.

Burke wants to focus on the importance of teaching people about diseases and improving public health conditions.  She said she wants to use the chance to help people, not just in America, but also in other countries.
