It's Time for a New Track

Cracks and dents are evident on Hingham High School's Track and Tennis Courts.

The Hingham High School track that was originally laid in 1985 and resurfaced in 1995-96 has deteriorated significantly. According to the School Committee, the track is now considered to be dangerous and could cause hamstring injuries and shin splints.

The funding for the track, a part of the Capital Plan, will  need to receive approval from Hingham Town Meeting on April 25.

The overall cost of the track is expected to be $450,000.

Both the Advisory Committee and the Board of Selectmen voted in favor of giving  $50,000 for track designs at last week's Selectmen meeting.

School Committee members hope to start construction on the track in June.
