Percussion master returns to perform in Norwell

The James Library & Center for the Arts, Norwell’s historic community arts center and lending library, presents Yoron Israel Jazz Group in concert on Saturday, October 8, 7:30 pm at 24 West Street, Norwell. The performance is sponsored by Coastal Heritage Bank and Old Derby Animal Hospital.

Prolific drummer, composer, bandleader and educator Yoron Israel returns to the James for an exciting jazz performance with his stellar group, featuring vocalist Dominique Eade, pianist Kevin Harris and bassist Gregory Ryan. These esteemed musicians will present an evening of music that promises to deliver groove, soul, beauty and exquisite taste.

Percussion master Yoron Israel’s brilliant musicality, intensity and versatility are appreciated worldwide, with international recognition for performance and 100 major recordings as accompanist. Israel also serves as a percussion education author and the esteemed Assistant Chair and Professor of Percussion at Berklee College of Music.

Improvising vocalist Dominique Eade is one of the most dynamic and influential jazz vocalists and jazz educators of our time. Her daring yet technically precise and emotionally coherent explorations both honor and expand the jazz vocal tradition, while her work in the classroom has helped shape the careers of many students. She has been on the faculty of New England Conservatory since 1984 and also teaches privately in New York.

New York-based jazz pianist Kevin Harris plays a distinctive combination of traditional and contemporary music that seeks to explore crossroads. Harris holds a master's degree in jazz performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and an undergraduate degree in music education from Morehead State University.

New York City native Gregory Ryan is established as an in-demand sideman on both acoustic and electric bass. His big supportive sound, swinging style and complete understanding of harmony combine to create the most complex modern composition swing in the tradition of the great bass players.

Tickets for Yoron Israel Jazz Group are $25 adults, $22 seniors age 65 and up, and $10 for students. A limited number of free subsidized tickets are available to senior citizens through the generosity of the Cordelia Family Foundation by reservation, some restrictions apply.
