Linden Ponds Resident Qualifies for 2017 National Senior Games in Alabama

Hingham, MA -- Ed Petcavage, who lives at Linden Ponds retirement community in Hingham, has competed in three state senior games, RI, MA and this year the NH state games. He medaled at the NH Senior Games to qualify for the javelin and the race walking events at the 2017 National Senior Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
"I have always been active and really enjoy race walking, it's quite a workout," said Petcavage. "Since moving to Linden Ponds and joining the fitness center, a two minute walk from my apartment home, I have experienced substantial physical health improvement. The fitness staff helped me developed a 3 hour per week program of stretching, strength training, and treadmill that has help me in athletic competition at the local (Quincy), State (MA, RI, NH), and at the National Senior Games (2013 in Ohio, 2015 in Minnesota).”
While Petcavage has ventured into horseshoe pitching, even winning the 2016 Elder’s State Class B Championship, his real love is race walking.

"Race walking is a full-body workout!” said Petcavage. “There is a rush finishing a race walk and knowing you were not disqualified for poor technique. It is very satisfying to know that I’m getting stronger, faster, healthier as I’m aging!”
