Make Your Dream Retirement a Reality at Linden Ponds

Donna Pizzi-Brown appreciates having so many amenities and activities available at Linden Ponds especially the library and discussion groups

Since moving to Linden Ponds, an Erickson Senior Living community in Hingham, Mass., Donna Pizzi-Brown has enjoyed a vibrant, engaging lifestyle she couldn't attain in her old house.

"Living as a single homeowner and moving to Linden Ponds was like discovering a rebirth," Donna says. "Now, I wake up each morning thinking about my newfound friendships and lifestyle. I am embracing it all and having the time of my life!"

According to Sales Director Susan Sheehan, that sense of renewal is something many residents discover once they experience the ease of daily life at Linden Ponds.

"What often surprises people is how naturally life opens up here," Sheehan says. "With access to amenities, activities, and neighbors right outside their door, residents find it easy to stay engaged, connected, and focused on the things they enjoy most."

The right fit

Donna's journey to Linden Ponds began long before her move. Nearly 20 years ago, when the community opened, a neighbor mentioned plans to move there.

"While I was still in the workforce, that conversation stayed with me as I approached retirement. I often drove past Linden Ponds, knowing one day soon I'd make a visit," says Donna, who was living in nearby Weymouth, Mass., at the time.

As the years passed, living alone while maintaining a house became increasingly isolating and difficult.

"It was taxing," she recalls. "It also put a damper on my social life, as many of my family and friends moved out of state."

After attending an informational luncheon at Linden Ponds with her cousin, Donna knew what her next step would be.

"I was awestruck at the magnitude and beauty of the community's surroundings. I couldn't believe it!" she says. "During the luncheon, it became clear to me that moving to Linden Ponds was a no-brainer, and over the past year, I've proven myself correct."

Convenient amenities

Donna appreciates how close her home is to so many on-campus amenities, including the Oakleaf Clubhouse.

"My medical and dental offices, the fitness center, a salon, library, postal box, and even banking is easily accessed within the clubhouse," she says.

With support from the Linden Ponds health care team, Donna has improved her well-being. "My medications have either been reduced in dosage or entirely eliminated. I haven't felt this good in decades," she says.

She also values the variety of restaurants serving made-to-order meals and convenient services, especially the 24-hour security and regular transportation provided by community shuttle buses.

A warm welcome

Meeting new neighbors and socializing is also easier than Donna expected.

"You walk down a corridor, and you'll be greeted with a warm smile or hello--and strike up a conversation on occasion," she says.

"At first, I was shy and would dine alone while taking in my surroundings. Then, folks that recognized my continuing presence would come by and ask to join me or invite me to join them."

She continues, "Just that little gesture encouraged me to join a variety of group discussions, such as the Memoirs group, In the News group, Complementary Medicine, and Train the Brain sessions. They all offer opportunities to learn and teach at the same time while getting to know folks on a more personal level."

She also attends a variety of conferences and shows at Linden Ponds' Performance Art Center and enjoys coffee gatherings to meet new residents.

Better than imagined

Looking back, Donna says, "Moving to Linden Ponds has given me more freedom and joy than I could ever imagine. Having lived in my house in Weymouth for 40 years, I can honestly tell you that I don't miss it one bit. It was needing me more than I needed it."

Her family members, many of whom live out of state, have noticed the difference, too. "They hear it in my voice. I have new friends, new activities, and a full life--and it is easily detected while talking with me," she says.

Clearly for Donna, the ease of living at Linden Ponds is profound.

"I didn't realize the gravity of how difficult living had become until I discovered how good it could be," she notes. "Moving to Linden Ponds was the best decision I've made in a very long time!"
