Marine Base Says Goodbye to Cpl. Christopher Orlando

A service was held for Orlando and 11 other Marines killed in a helicopter collision.

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, HI - Marines in Hawaii said one last goodbye to 12 servicemen who lost their lives in a helicopter collision last Thursday.

Among the deceased was CPL. Christopher Orlando, a 23-year-old from Hingham.

Photos of the men and crosses were placed on a tarmac near a helicopter, according to the Boston Herald. Servicemen placed several items at the crosses including flight vests, rifles, flight helmets, combat boots and leis.

During the service, a bagpiper played “Amazing Grace” and a Marine band played taps while servicemen shared stories of the fallen.

Last Thursday, two military helicopters collided and failed to return to base. A search for the men was unsuccessful.
