MBCC Honors Firefighters at Run for Prevention on 3/30/19
Firefighters honored at Run for Prevention event on 3/30 in Hingham

Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) will be honoring Massachusetts firefighters at all of their 2019 events, and is extending an invitation to them and their families to be our guests at the Run for Prevention on March 30. Firefighters interested in participating in the 2-mile walk or 5-or 10-mile run should email info@mbcc.org.
"Firefighters risk their lives every day to keep us all safe, and we know that their risks are compounded by long-time exposure to carcinogens found in flame retardants," says Cheryl Osimo, MBCC's Executive Director. "As a result of this exposure, firefighters face an occupational risk of cancer which is deeply concerning."
On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) invites Massachusetts residents to register for the first ever, Run for Prevention. The event will take place at Bare Cove Park in Hingham, MA, located along the banks of the Weymouth Back River and features USATF certified 5- or 10-mile runs, 2-mile fitness walk, and 1-mile kids fun run. Registration is $40 for the 10-mile run, $35 for the 5-mile run, $25 for walk participants and $10 for the kids fun run. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each competitive event.

About MBCC: In Massachusetts, breast cancer incidence rates are 12% higher than the national average, which estimates that 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Only 5-10% of breast cancers are associated with the high-risk BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) is the only advocacy breast cancer non-profit working towards the prevention of environmental causes of the disease. This work is made possible through fundraising events like the Run for Prevention.
