New Hingham Police Chief Will Come From Internal Search

The search for the next police chief will be an internal search.

Hingham’s next police chief will come from inside the department.

Last week, the selectmen discussed the schedule to find Chief Michael Peraino’s successor.

Candidates will be required to be at least a lieutenant with a minimum of five years experience within the department in a supervisory role. They will also require a bachelors in criminal justice.

Selectman Paul Healey, a former policeman, said he preferred two questions because he wants to see how the next chief does on paper in addition to the interview process.

Peraino announced his retirement in October, about three and a half years after being named the chief in March 2011.
