OCMS Students Send Support to Texas
Student's at OCMS, upon learning of Hurricane Harvey's destruction, reached across the miles to send support to Montessori schools in Texas

September 15, 2017 – Hingham, MA – Students at Hingham’s Old Colony Montessori School (OCMS) are sending encouragement and words of healing to children in Texas that have been overwhelmed and uprooted by the devastating affects of Hurricane Harvey.
Through the Montessori Administrators Association (www.montessoriadmins.org), OCMS will be making a financial donation and sending dozens of hand-made cards to other Montessori students in schools currently rebuilding their classrooms and campuses. Classroom materials were destroyed, classrooms became unsuitable for student instruction and playgrounds, gardens and school buildings have all suffered irreparable damage in the wake of Harvey’s destruction. Montessori schools all over the country are coming together to donate and lend support through this organization to help rebuild Montessori schools in desperate need of repair.
“Get well, Texas” could be seen on many of the brightly colored cards and drawings, as OCMS students reached out to lift the spirits of other children almost 2,000 miles away. Following a tender and informative lesson on how natural disasters can negatively impact adults, children, buildings and the environment, students in both the OCMS Extended Day and Elementary classes immediately wanted to reach across the miles and help encourage and support Montessori friends they have never met.
