Police Discover Explosives in Hingham Home

Police will seek charges against a Hingham man after discovering explosive items in his home.

Hingham Police will seek charges against a 27-year-old Hingham man after discovering items used to make explosives in his Back River Road home.

Benjamin Young of 18 Back River Road will be summoned to court by the Hingham Police Department on charges related to items found in the home. Those charges are not yet available.

Over the weekend, an explosion in a car in Quincy led investigators to the Hingham home.

Investigators were able to locate a small quantity of homemade explosives which were in violation of state law. Hingham Fire Department, State Fire Marshall, State Police Bomb Squad and a Hazardous Materials Response Team all assisted at the home.

Local residents were evacuated during the investigation but police say it does not appear the explosives were made to hurt anyone.

Authorities are still investigating whether the Hingham incident has a connection to the Quincy explosion.

On Saturday night, Joseph Brennan 36, of Norwell was arrested after an explosion in his car allegedly caused him to crash his vehicle on Falls Boulevard in Quincy. While driving, Brennan lit a cigarette, which triggered materials he had in his vehicle. He was charged with possession of an infernal device according to NECN.

Authorities told said Brennan’s actions were not terrorism-related and the bombs were made for fun.
