Registration Now Open For Hingham Gals Basketball

The following information has been sent out by the Hingham Public Schools:

GALs 411

What is it?

• In town basketball league for all girls Grades 1 through 8. All games are played on Sundays. GALs has an “equal playing” time rule. All games and practices are played in Hingham in assorted Town facilities.
• GALs is comprised of 5 divisions:
  • Grades 1 and 2 play together in one division;
  • Grade 3 plays in one division;
  • Grade 4 plays in one division;
  • Grades 5 and 6 play together in one division;
  • Grades 7 and 8 play together in one division.
• Grades 1 through 4 are instructional and involve a practice/scrimmage on Sundays for each team; scrimmages for these grades consist of 3v3 and/or 4v4 with fewer players on the court allowing less congestion and increased playing time.
• Grades 5 through 8 are both instructional and competitive and involve a weekly practice and a Sunday game for each team. A champion for Grades 5 through 8 is determined by a playoff held the week of March 17th.

When is it?

• Season starts on December 2nd and runs through March 24th. Clinics and evaluations are conducted on Sundays in December.
• The regular season kickoffs January 8th.
• Season wraps up around March 19th.

How Much?

• GALs is $125 for the 1st player, $85 for the 2nd player, and $65 for any additional players. Travel players receive a $50 discount

Key dates:

• November 26th: Registration fee increases by $25 per player.
• December 2nd: Season opens with clinics for the month of December.
• January 1st: Registration Closes!
• January 6th: Regular season starts.
• January 20th: MLK Holiday weekend; games are still on! Some divisions may hold jamboree tournament
• February 17th: Start of February vacation; gyms are closed, no games; no practices during vacation week.
• February 24th: End of February vacation; gyms are open and games will be played.
• March 10th: Regular season ends for 5th/6th grade division and 7th/8th grade division.
• March 17th: Playoffs for 5th/6th grade division and 7th/8th grade division.
• March 24th: Season ends!
