Suspect in Elderly Break-in, Rape Indicted on Charges
Donald J. Galvin, 65, of Boston, is accused of breaking into a Hingham home and attempting to rape an elderly woman.

A Boston man has been indicted on charges he attacked and sexually assaulted a Hingham woman in her home, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced.
On Tuesday, a Plymouth County Grand Jury returned indictments against Donald J. Galvin, 65, of Boston, on two counts each of assault with intent to rape, indecent assault and battery on a person over 60, sssault and battery on an elderly person and breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony. Galvin will be arraigned in Superior Court at a later date.

On Thursday, July 28th at approximately 9 p.m., Hingham Police received a 911 call from woman who reported that she had been sexually assaulted by a man who had broken into her home. Hingham Police arrived on scene, but the perpetrator had fled the area.
Hingham Police worked with the victim in the case to develop their investigation and create a composite sketch of the defendant. Through their investigation, a DNA profile was generated and uploaded to the State Police Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Hingham Police were notified by the State Police Crime Lab that the standard had been linked to 65-year-old Galvin and as a result, Hingham Police obtained an arrest warrant and coordinated with Boston Police to take Galvin into custody on August 8.

The District Attorney moved for a dangerousness hearing for Galvin, who is a Level 3 Registered Sex Offender, because he is charged with felonies that include an element of the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force, the danger Galvin poses to the community, the nature and circumstances of the offenses charged and his record of convictions. Galvin is currently being held without bail as a result of the dangerousness hearing, held on August 11 in Hingham District Court.
