Suspect in Elderly Break-in, Sexual Assault Arrested

A Boston man has been charged with breaking into the Hingham home of an elderly woman and sexually assaulting her.

From the Hingham Police Department: HINGHAM, MA – A Boston man has been arrested in connection to a break-in and sexual assault that took place on July 28.

Donald J. Galvin, 64, was arrested Monday night and charged with two counts of assault and battery with intent to rape (subsequent offense), two counts of indecent assault and battery, assault and battery on a person over 60, and breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, according to the Hingham Police Department.

On June 28 at about 9:02 p.m., a resident in North Hingham called 911 to report the incident. The victim told police that the suspect had gained entry into the home by forcing open a ground floor window. Once inside the home, he sexually assaulted the woman and fled on foot. Police were unable to located the suspect. police said.

Following an investigation, Galvin was identified and arrested in Boston Monday night.

According to the state, Galvin is a level three sex offender. In 1993, he was convicted of assault to commit rape and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14.

During his arraignment at Hingham District Court, Galvin was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Aug. 11, according to WHDH.
