Trail of Blood Leads Hingham Police to Break-in Suspect

A Brockton man faces a breaking and entering charge along with wanton and malicious destruction of property, and larceny.

A trail of blood and an assumption that such an injury would require medical attention has lead to the arrest of a Brockton man connected to a mid-August break-in at the All State Glass Company in Hingham.

Sean Joseph McCarthy, 19, was arrested on Sept. 28 according to the Hingham Police Log. The Patriot Ledger reports that he was charged with breaking and entering at nighttime to commit a felony, wanton and malicious destruction of property, and larceny.

After police responded to the break-in, investigators discovered a considerable amount of blood at the scene and over $100 missing from the office. The trail of blood took police through the woods to Abington Street, where the trail stopped.

Police were unable to locate the suspect during a check of six area hospitals and several walk-in facilities, but an anonymous tip said McCarthy went to the Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston.

McCarthy also faces charges in Stoughton District Court. He pleaded innocent to the charges in Hingham District Court and will return for a pretrial hearing, which has not been scheduled.
