(State House) – State Rep. Garrett J. Bradley, D-Hingham, was successful in adding $8.1 million to a transportation bond bill to pay for traffic improvements at the Route 3A rotary on Summer Street and along Derby Street in Hingham.
Rep. Bradley said, “Derby Street from Pond Park Road to Cushing Street, Recreation Drive and up to Gardner Street is an area of critical concern and importance for Hingham. This funding will, if given final approval, allow the town to make traffic improvements that enhance public safety and make it easier for residents and businesses to access homes and shops.”
Of the total amount requested in the funding bill, $1,747,000 would be dedicated to improving the intersection at Gardner, Whiting (Route 53) and Derby Streets. Another $4,212,000 was allocated to address traffic concerns from just west of the Route 3 interchange to Cushing Street. In addition, $2,157,000 would be used for reconstruction of the Summer Street rotary. All of the projects are in the early design stage, and no final plans have yet been adopted.
